Sewer Scope
What’s a Sewer Scope!?
So, your new home has a sewer line and you want to make sure everything flows the way it should? A sewer scope is your answer. It’s straightforward, but it can tell you whether the main line to the street is clear…or if you’re about to inherit a messy (and expensive) surprise.
Here’s how it (basically) works: A specialized camera is inserted into an accessible cleanout and run through the main sewer line all the way to the city connection or septic tank. The line is inspected in real time for cracks, root intrusion, offsets, bellies, blockages, or deteriorated piping. You get a clear look at what condition the underground pipe is actually in.
This test is important when buying a home because sewer repairs aren’t cheap (and they’re not fun to discover after move-in). A scope gives you peace of mind that everything below ground is moving along like it should.
While I don’t personally perform sewer scopes, I work with professional sewer inspection companies and am happy to coordinate scheduling alongside your home inspection so everything gets handled at the same time—simple and efficient.
